Our brand protection specialist Karolina Tallberg, who has already had a long career with trademarks, has been admitted to the list of professional representatives maintained by the European Union Intellectual Property Office (EUIPO) in June 2026. She can represent our clients in all trademark and design matters at the EUIPO and use the professional title of EU Trademark and Design Attorney.
Karolina's career in trademarks is already exceptionally comprehensive. Qualifying as an EU Trademark and Design Attorney through the Finnish trademark attorney examination and authorisation is a natural continuation of her long career in the trademark field.
Over 18 years, Karolina has developed extensive and diverse expertise in managing registration processes and maintaining trademark portfolios in international markets. She has assisted hundreds of start-ups, SMEs, and large corporations with trademark protection in export markets, as well as the owners of the world's most significant brands in trademark and anti-counterfeiting matters in the Finnish market.
The trademark field is special in that becoming a true brand protection professional can only happen by doing the work and learning from more experienced colleagues — and by taking on increasing responsibility as expertise grows.
"This qualification feels, above all, like a natural continuation of my career. I have been handling trademark matters for a long time, and responsibility has gradually grown with experience. It is wonderful that the expertise is now also officially reflected in my professional title," Karolina commented on her new attorney role.
How to qualify as an EU trademark attorney?
There are many paths to becoming a trademark professional, but today the use of the title of trademark attorney in Finland requires the successful completion of a demanding attorney examination, suitable higher education studies, and work experience in the field.
The right to use the professional title of an authorized trademark attorney is granted in Finland by the Patent and Registration Office (PRH). The attorney examination consists of a section covering the intellectual property rights system and the ethics of attorney practice, as well as a section focused — depending on the candidate's choice — on either patent, trademark, or design law.
The purpose of the attorney examination is to ensure the level of professional competence of persons who provide services related to trademarks and other intellectual property rights and handle IP assignments.
A person who has successfully completed the trademark section of the examination is familiar with the key current Finnish and EU trade mark law, including its provisions, guidelines, and case law; the regulations governing the international trademark registration system; the most important international agreements on trademark law; and masters the practical steps required for trademark related assignments before the Finnish Patent and Registration Office, the Market Court, the EUIPO, and the international office WIPO.
Based on a Finnish attorney authorization and sufficient practical work experience, it is possible to apply separately for admission to the list of approved representatives maintained by the European Intellectual Property Office (EUIPO). If the application is approved, the person will be entitled to use the professional title of EU trademark and design attorney.
We congratulate our colleague Karolina on the successful completion of the Finnish attorney examination and on her new professional title of EU Trademark and Design Attorney!
