At the annual IPR Gala organized by the IPR University Center on 20 May 2022 at Katajanokan Kasino in Helsinki, IP experts and innovations were awarded. Kaulo & Partners was chosen as the winner of the IP Innovation Award of the Year by a large majority of votes from the three finalists.
The recognition for Kaulo & Partners as a young law firm, founded in August 2021, is significant. In less than a year, we have been able to genuinely reform the trademark and legal sector in our own way, by serving brand owners based on partnership and strategy. We are also proud of our KP LegalLandscape® software, which contributes to the efficient management of our clients’ brand rights and contract portfolios.
"Brand rights of SMEs to a new level"
Kaulo & Partners' team happily welcomed the IP Innovation Award, an owl designed by Oiva Toikka, and celebrated the recognition together. The Award encourages us to continue towards our vision: to become Finland's leading law firm specializing in brand protection, commercialization and enforcement, with the mission of increasing the value of brand rights through brand right strategy and its implementation.

In his speech at Katajanokan Kasino, the founder of Kaulo & Partners, Jani Kaulo, thanked the entire IPR community and his team.
“Many thanks to the entire IPR community for this recognition! We are very pleased and grateful to have been selected as the winner of this year’s IP Innovation Award as a young law firm. The Award shows that we have done at least something right from the very beginning. Even bigger thanks go to our great team, my highly esteemed colleagues Maria Puronvarsi, Karolina Tallberg and Anne Suutala, who already last summer believed in Kaulo & Partners' business idea and our new way of managing our clients’ brand rights. ”
“But the journey has just begun, and our goals are tough. Our mission is, no more and no less, than to bring the brand rights of Finnish SMEs to a new level.”
At the IPR Gala, awards were also presented in the following categories: IPR Act of the Year, IPR Person of the Year, Copyright Act of the Year, and the Finnish AIPPI Association's own recognition award. Criteria for selecting Kaulo & Partners as the recipient of the IP Innovation Award of the Year
The selection of Kaulo & Partners, which started operations in August 2021, as the recipient of the IP Innovation Award of the Year, is grounded as follows:
“Kaulo & Partners is Finland's first and only law firm that focuses exclusively on the protection, enforcement, and commercial exploitation of brand rights, as well as the proactive prevention of IP related problems through strategic legal advice.
The company has introduced a new approach to IP legal services, according to which all practical measures with partner clients are based on a brand right strategy that has been developed in the first place before any actions, thus enabling an effective way to manage and increase the value of brand rights in the long term.
A large number of Finnish companies do not manage their brand rights comprehensively, proactively and systematically. With this strategic and proactive service model, Kaulo & Partners is changing the typical way of Finnish SMEs to manage their brand rights as single and separate measures, without linking them to the company’s business strategy and pre-established criteria.
Earlier, there has not existed a law firm in Finland focusing specifically on brand rights and acting as a strategic partner for brand owners in long-term cooperation.
